and much of my life has been intertwined with various forms of art. Before my path unfolded to become a pattern designer, I worked for almost a decade as a professional makeup artist, working predominantly in special events and tv. Have you ever had a hankering for something that you just couldn’t find in a store, and it existed in your head but nowhere else? Me too. I remember DIYing looks in my wardrobe from a young age, and now I joke that the writing was on the wall for me to end up making my own clothes. 

When my husband and I had our first child in the very beginning of 2020, I knew I’d be putting away my brush belt for a bit while I was home with a baby. As the months following unfolded, it became clear that I wouldn’t be returning to makeup artistry any time soon. Being freshly postpartum, unable to leave the house, and no longer having something artistic to sink my teeth into, I quickly needed a creative outlet. Enter: sewing! 

I dusted off the sewing machine my mother-in-law had bought me years before and started tinkering. I’d take it out once or twice a year to mess around and make something that had the staying power of sidewalk chalk in the middle of a summer downpour. Having a brand new baby brought more of a commitment to sewing for me. It turns out that babies don’t care much if you make them something that’s haphazardly handmade. I was hooked.

( also every moment I should’ve been sleeping too). Months later, I launched a handmade baby and toddler brand. It was fun, but I was really limited to the amount of time I could sew and whether or not people saw enough value to pay a price that was reflective of the work put into it. I eventually went from a made-to-order model to a drop model, but my creativity felt stifled. 

Meanwhile, more and more people were asking me if I’d teach them to sew. One more baby and a couple years later, I launched an E-book, started teaching two day sewing workshops in Tampa where I live, and decided to dive all the way in. I invested in a comprehensive pattern drafting and grading education, and I haven’t looked back.

So here we are! I’m a wife and mom of 2, Capricorn, resident reptile lover (my friends call me camp counselor Kelsey when we’re at the zoo or anywhere with wildlife), chronic oversharer, casual content creator, immature slapstick comedy fan, and pattern designer.
